Hollowcore
Introduction
Hollowcore planks are precast concrete elements incorporating hollow cores through its length to reduce the self-weight but maintain a stiff and efficient lightweight section. Prestressed high tensile strands provide a slab which is has an economic load/span ratio.
Hollowcore Advantages
Ease and Speed of Erection
The Units are hoisted into position to the supporting structure direct from the delivery vehicle. Time-consuming activities such as propping, shuttering and concrete pouring are virtually eliminated. Using a precast floor the majority of work is carried out off site keeping time consuming activities to a minimum.
Immediate Working Platform
Once grouted the completed floor provides an immediate working platform for follow on trades reducing site delays to a minimum.
Large Spans
Prestressed units can be used to achieve large spans. This offers the designer flexibility and eliminates the need for intermediate supports.
Fire Resistant
Concrete is inherently fireproof without the need for additional treatment. Concrete floors give four times the fire resistance achieved by timber. This means a minimum of 1 hour fire resistance can easily be achieved.
Eco-Friendly
Masonry homes with concrete floors are energy efficient and their mass helps to balance internal temperatures. The use of recycled aggregates and fuels significantly reduce the negative environmental impact of producing concrete.
Sound Regulations Part E
Due to its mass/density concrete is good for reducing sound transmission. Hollowcore floors hold a robust details for Approved document E which eliminates the need to carry out Pre Completion Testing (P.C.T).
